I use a plugin called ShareDaddy on my wordpress blog that adds social buttons to every post. However, the shortlinks hasn't actually shortened any links, so when I post to twitter or facebook the original full length link is used.
I have set up everything alright, with a Bit.ly username and API key but nothing has changed. Any help would be appreciated!
My site is http://www.310toovertime.com
Thanks!

Which links are you trying to shorten?
It only hooks the the template tag "the_shortlink ()"
It doesn't look like ShareDaddy uses that function in their plugin.
Here is a link to the function this plugin works with: http://codex.wordpress.org/Fun….._shortlink
Thanks for downloading!

I'm just trying to shorten article links. Normally mine are: sitename.com/year/month/articlename
Is there a way to get it to work with ShareDaddy or should I use a different social sharing plugin that works with your plugin? I've seen some sites that have social sharing plugins that generate the shortlink automatically so that's kind of what I'm trying to do.

I took a quick look on how the ShareDaddy gets the link for sharing.
It uses the get_permalink function to get the links for sharing. If I tie my plugin into that function it will change all the links around your site to bily links for internal linking too.
I've made a special change to the plugin just for you to try out. http://files.jgwebdevelopment……tlinks.zip
Let me know if it's what you need.

I tried it but nothing seems to have changed
I'm not sure if this is part of the problem, but I noticed this happens also: when I click "Get Shortlink" on an article's edit page, it gives me the default WP shortlink (ex. http://wp.me/p1iDwP-Z)... isn't it supposed to be a bit.ly shortlink or is that just completely different?

Oh really. Are you using the default settings on my plugin? It's working on my development site.
Create me an admin account on your blog using the following email: info@jgwebdevelopment.com
After I check things out simply delete it. I'll get it working.

Ok I think the e-mail just got sent.
I'm pretty sure I'm using default settings, the only thing I knew how to change was the bit.ly login and API key, nothing in the code.

I never recieved the login information.
Could you email it directly to me? info@jgwebdevelopment.com
There might be a bug in my plugin. But I won't know for for sure until I get a close look at it.

Thanks, I got it. Looks like the bit.ly api info is failing. Make sure it's all correct. I haven't put API error checking in it yet.

I just reset the API, tried it and it still didn't work.
Tried it again a second ago, and hey! It' works!
Thanks for the help Jason! Great plugin!
[edit] Doesn't seem to work from the front page though… I might just take the sharedaddy plugin off the front page if I can.

Ok now it just doesn't work anymore from any page and I haven't changed anything. Bummer, it was working a second ago. What it does is it redirects to the article page.

I saw that, it was working when I went to your home page, then when clicking around your site a bit it stopped. I'm going to try a different shortner to see if it's just bit.ly or my plugin.

I tried it with url.ly and it worked just fine. Something might be up with the API.
However, I clicked a few of the share links to see if it would still work correctly with the shortened url and all of them failed. This plugin isn't looking like it's going to work with ShareDaddy.

That's fine, I'll try to find something to replace ShareDaddy. Thanks for the help though

No problem. I found a new plugin called "Share and Follow" that has a built in bit.ly option that's working great right now. I think I'll keep your plugin too though because it's working now and I can submit links to reddit, facebook, etc with short links.
